A new school year brings a new chapter for the Bluffton Pirates Marching Band, as the Pirates take the field this fall under the direction of new Band Director Andy Honse.

Long before the first kickoff of the football season, Bluffton’s band students were already hard at work. Throughout the summer, members of the marching band spent countless hours at band camp, learning new music, practicing marching fundamentals, developing formations, and bringing all of the pieces together for their upcoming performances.

Band camp requires plenty of dedication. Students work through long rehearsals, warm summer weather, and the challenge of learning both the musical and visual elements of a marching show. Every repetition helps the band become a little stronger, a little sharper, and a little more prepared for Friday nights.

This season also marks the beginning of a new era with Director Andy Honse leading the program. Honse brings years of experience as a music educator and band director to Bluffton. His work as a band educator has previously earned recognition, including being named a semifinalist for the Findlay Rotary Club's Golden Apple Award while teaching at McComb.

Throughout summer rehearsals, Honse and the students have been working together to establish expectations, build relationships, and prepare a show that Pirate fans can enjoy throughout the football season.

But marching band is about much more than what happens during halftime. It teaches students discipline, teamwork, responsibility, perseverance, and what can be accomplished when everyone works toward the same goal. Every musician and every section has an important role to play.

The hours of preparation are nearly over. Now it's time for the Bluffton Pirates Marching Band to take everything they worked on during the summer and bring it to the field.

As the football team prepares for another season under the Friday night lights, the band is ready too — providing the music, energy, and Pirate spirit that make game nights at Bluffton special.
