The Bluffton High School boys soccer team is back on the pitch, beginning another season with high expectations and plenty of Pirate pride. After months away from competition, the opening weeks have given the team an opportunity to put its offseason preparation to work and begin building its identity for the 2026 season.

The Pirates faced an early challenge when they opened the season on the road against Lima Shawnee. Bluffton fell 2-0, but the setback didn't last long. The Pirates responded with a 3-1 victory over Botkins before traveling to Archbold, where they battled back from a 1-0 halftime deficit to earn a 2-1 victory.

That resilience carried directly into Northwest Conference play. Bluffton opened its conference schedule in impressive fashion with a 10-0 victory over Spencerville at Steinmetz Field. Carter Steinmetz and Jaxton Morris each scored twice, while Chase Kelly, Micah Lemley, Xavier Navarro, Gavin Amstutz, Ashton Ungashick and Emekkabo Smith also found the back of the net. The victory moved Bluffton to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the NWC, extending the Pirates' winning streak to three matches.

This year's team also carries the weight of a proud Bluffton soccer tradition. Pirate boys soccer has captured 11 Northwest Conference championships, including every conference title from 2015 through 2025. That history provides plenty to play for, but a new season means this group has an opportunity to write a chapter of its own.

With the season now underway, the Pirates will look to continue developing their teamwork, communication and toughness as the schedule becomes more demanding. Each practice and match offers another chance to improve and prepare for the challenges ahead.

The opening weeks have already provided adversity, a comeback, big victories and plenty of goals. Now the Bluffton Pirates are ready to see where the rest of the 2026 season takes them.
